A supplement we Adora
Written by Rachel Berman
If you’re in a dietitian’s office and she starts trying to sell you supplements, I’d typically advise you to run for the door. It can be quite lucrative for a dietitian to carry vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements, and you, as the patient, may think they’re necessary for good nutrition. My major rule of thumb is: Food first!
That said, it can be difficult to get enough of some nutrients, like calcium, solely from meals. For women especially, this mineral is so important for building bone mass, preventing osteoporosis-related fractures, and protecting the heart. Every adult should get at least 1000 mg/day, pregnant women up to 1500 mg, and post-menopausal women need about 1200 mg/day. To put that in perspective, 8 ounces of milk (or yogurt) has about 300-350 mg of calcium and a 1/2 cup of tofu has 250 mg. So even if you’re drinking two glasses of milk a day and eating one non-dairy serving of calcium, you still may not be getting all you need!
Enter Adora Calcium Supplements. Each dark or milk chocolate disc contains 500 mg of calcium and 100 IU of vitamin D (which helps optimize calcium absorption) for just 30 calories, 2 grams of fat, and 3 grams of carbohydrate. Popping one of these is an easy way to pump up your calcium intake — while satisfying your sweet tooth with its creamy, chewy texture. And for those with special dietary needs, Adora is kosher and gluten-free. So if you don’t eat three or more high-calcium foods a day, consider adding a supplement like Adora to your daily routine. And just for the record, I’m not getting paid for this.
