Clever life advice
Written by Rachel Berman
OK, this isn’t an obsession about a food product, but I’m loving this book right now and wanted to share it with the rest of you. I know you’re smart and ambitious and want to make healthy choices in all aspects of your life, so I thought you’d like this!Remember the book The Rules — the dating bible for single women all over the world? Well, career advisor Nicole Williams took those rules, tweaked them, and turned them into solid advice you can use in your career. The result? Her new book Girl on Top. Turns out, “Play Hard to Get” works in the bedroom and in the boardroom. Once you read Nicole’s book you’ll understand why. She turns it into a discussion of supply and demand and although Nicole admits she’s no economist, it makes absolute perfect sense to me.
Some other dating rules to turn into career success? “Don’t Give Your Milk Away for Free” and “Don’t Bash Your Ex.” Are you seeing the connection yet? Not only is it a clever concept, but it’s written pretty much how we write our content here at Skinny — straightforward and conversational (although her conversation gets a little more risqué than ours!). Nicole’s book represents brains, beauty, and sophistication so I didn’t feel like a loser pining over life struggles in the self-help corner of a bookstore. Girl on Top is practical, funny, and a good read for anyone who wants to get ahead in her career or get whatever it is you want out of life. They say you can’t have it all, but this book provides a healthy perspective on how to find peace in your work life and home life — which we all could benefit from!

I wish I were more assertive with my coworkers. I hate confrontation and would rather just go with the flow but sometimes that ends up hurting me in the end!
