I don’t know about you, but when the weather warms up I start craving ice cream! And although I only indulge every once in awhile (hello, cookie dough), I’ll often stick to low-fat or fat-free frozen yogurt to keep my weight in check — it is bathing suit season after all! My new favorite fro-yo place? The Lite Choice (TLC). Look for TLC chains popping up all over NYC, Long Island, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.Promising to be 100% natural (some flavors are even organic) and made from farm fresh dairy without corn syrup, preservatives, or artificial ingredients, this fro-yo tastes amazing. To top it off, if they aren’t offering the flavor you want at the moment, you can ask them to mix it for you and it’ll be ready in 60 seconds flat! Beat that Ben & Jerry’s!
My favorite TLC flavors so far are Cookies ‘N Cream (110-120 calories per small serving, which is about a ½ cup), Original Vanilla (80-90 calories), and Cinnamon Crunch (100-110 calories). If sweet isn’t your thing, they also have fruity flavors including Mango (80-90 calories), Fresh Banana (90-100 calories), and Pineapple Cheesecake (100-110) to name a few. Skinny Tip: Stick with the basics, Vanilla and Chocolate, for the least amount of calories (80-90 calories) and always get a small — their portions are not wimpy!
For toppings, skip the chocolate chips (140 calories, 8 grams of fat per side serving) and rainbow sprinkles (180 calories, 5 grams of fat per side serving). Choose crushed nuts (for a fiber and protein punch) or get your fro-yo in a cone for added crunch (and only 50 additional calories).
Throwing a birthday party? Order a personalized cake from TLC made with vanilla and chocolate yogurt and a hint of crushed chocolate cookie instead of your regular bakery cake — you’ll save 200-300 calories and over 12 grams of fat per slice! So go ahead and give into that sweet tooth — even during bathing suit season — we’ve got you covered!
