Ginger-bred fan
Written by Lisa Mansdorf
I’m a sushi fanatic. I love everything about a sushi dinner, especially the slices of ginger that accompanies the rolls. It adds a nice, spicy kick to the whole ordeal. Of course, the real purpose of the pickled root is to cleanse your palate between bites. As it turns out, ginger has a lot of functions: palette-cleanser, stomach-soother, breath-freshener, even arthritis- and migraine-reliever.
Since I don’t keep a jar of pickled ginger in the fridge, though, I’ve found another way to get my fix: Gin Gins Hard Candy by The Ginger People, a sweet and spicy delight. Since three candies have just 35 calories, they’re perfect for a treat after a meal or anytime. Pop one in your mouth after dinner as a digestive aid, suck on one during the day when you want a spicy taste, or use one to mask bad breath. Another use? Toss one into hot water for a soothing, late night tea.
