Salute the Kernel!
Written by Rachel Berman
The Oscars may be over, but I’ve still got movies on the mind. In fact, as a big Woody Allen fan, I'm embarrassed to say I haven't seen Vicky Cristina Barcelona yet. I've decided to correct that ASAP, which means a movie night this weekend with some of my girlfriends. It wouldn’t be complete, of course, without the classic cinematic treat: popcorn. Since it’s a whole grain and one cup popped is less than 50 calories — without extra butter, which can add 3 or 4 times the calories — popcorn is a healthy treat. But with nothing on it, it can be a little tasteless. I want happy friends on my hands, so I’m going to spice it up.
Kernel Season’s Popcorn Seasoning is my new go-to product for great flavor — and with no excess calories or fat, it’s still healthy. It comes in a bunch of flavors including butter, barbeque, Cajun, white cheddar, and Parmesan garlic (my favorite), so everyone can find the right taste for them. And at about 1 calorie per serving, it's hard to beat nutritionally. In fact, many movie theaters have hopped on the Kernel’s bandwagon, too, offering various flavors to shake on at their counters. Look for it the next time you catch a flick — as long as you get the small popcorn without added butter, you’re good to go!
Tanya's tip: Kernel Season’s may have been created for popcorn, but it’s also delicious lightly sprinkled on veggies or salads.
