United States of Fashion

With another peaceful transfer of power, it’s easy to feel inspired today. In fact, the new regime has even taken the fashion and beauty industries by storm. Sure, we’ve been enthusiastic about presidents in the past, but I don’t remember Ronald Reagan barrettes or Bill Clinton lip balm. As our 44th president takes the oath of office, take a look at some of my favorite Barack Obama inspired pieces. I think you’ll dig them, no matter what side of the aisle you sit on.
Save the Date: Ladies T by Zac Posen, $45, InauguralCollectibles.com
You’ll really never forget this historic occasion if you buy a charcoal gray t-shirt with the date right on it. If only we had a Zac Posen piece for each of our own most memorable days.
All Ears: Obama Logo Dangle Wire Earrings by Jonas Perkins, $42, ObamaArt.us
Hanging on every word of the inaugural address? Then you might want to hang the campaign logo, in sterling silver, from your ears.
Lip Service: Khuraira Lady Obama Lipstick, $20, Khuraira.com
We can’t forget the new first lady of fashion! Inspired by Michelle, this lip color is the perfect shade for all women — and made to support them, too. Twenty percent of proceeds benefit the Breast Cancer Network of Strength.
Change is Good: Rachel Roy’s Be the Change Scarf, $95, Store.BarackObama.com
Wear this subtle scarf featuring the phrase, “Be the change you want to see in the world” and you’ll be referencing the word most associated with our new pres and a quote from Gandhi. Talk about dressing smart.
Time to Reflect: Barack Obama Peace Handbag Mirror, $7.49, blueskycreations.mybisi.com
If you want to mark the occasion but an inaugural jacket seems a bit over the top, go for a simple trinket like this mirror. Checking your lip color will suddenly feel like a patriotic duty.
