Week 6: It was a happy, healthy Thanksgiving!
Hello Skinny friends! Hope all of you had a very happy Thanksgiving! Though it’s one of my favorite holidays, I admit I wasn’t looking forward to it this year as much as I usually do. Mostly, I was worried about messing up my diet, which I’ve been working so hard on every day! (Even last week, when I was in LA for work, I managed to work my fiber crackers into my daily routine and stick to egg white omelets from room service.) What if I undid all that good work with one indulgent day? Even worse, what if I sacrificed the foods I love — but didn’t do it right and fell into unexpected calorie pitfalls?
Before I faced down the turkey, I sat down with Tanya. Her suggestion? Think of my dinner plate as a peace sign. In the top left section, I would put white meat turkey (with no skin and gravy, of course). In the top right section, I would put my non-starchy veggies — good thing I love Brussels sprouts! Then in the smaller section, I could put the Thanksgiving classics I can’t live without. I knew if I could enjoy at least a taste of stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce, I’d be less likely to go overboard. As I’ve been learning over and over again, it’s all about moderation! Oh, and for dessert, I’d volunteered to make Skinny’s Light ‘n Pure Pumpkin Pie — a big hit!
Was it a sacrifice? Maybe a little, but, honestly, not much. Plus, I didn’t feel like I had to take that late afternoon food nap. (I’d suggest this method to everyone as you start heating up your Turkey Day leftovers and right on into the holiday season.) And you know what’s even better? I dropped below 150 pounds — my first big milestone! I’m currently at 149.5. It’s been a steady loss, and according to Tanya, only 1.5 of those pounds have been water weight. Meaning it’s almost all been fat loss! My body fat percentage is going down quickly. Can’t wait to see how many more pounds I can drop — even in the holiday season!
So, friends...today starts my journey. Wish me luck!
