Sweet spot!
Written by Rachel Berman
Some people like to relax by spending an afternoon in the park or watching a movie. I like to wander the streets, stopping in supermarkets and health food stores, searching for new snacks. It may sound odd, but I can spend hours reading food labels. And every once in awhile, it pays off big.
During my last visit to New York, I swung my tote bag over my shoulder, left the boyfriend to his football game, and walked through Midtown east. In every mini food market I went into, I saw the same colorful packaging: Japanese-made Kasugai gummy candy, made from real fruit juice. How could I resist? I bought the melon flavor, but I’ve since tried all the other ones, too: apple, lychee, kiwi, grape, strawberry, and mango. I can’t decide which I like best. Each candy is individually-wrapped, which prevents me from overindulging—a good thing since they’re so tasty! I got my sugar fix after eating only two—just 33 calories and 7 grams of carbs.
Tanya’s Tip: Throw a few pieces in your handbag or desk drawer to give you a burst of low-calorie, zero fat, juicy flavor when the 4 pm sugar craving strikes.
